"An Exciting Time for Ogden"

By Mayor Matthew Godfrey

It’s an honor to be writing in the first edition of the Historic 25th Street Gazette. I applaud the entrepreneurial spirit of the team that has put this together. This is a very exciting time for Ogden. Development in the downtown area is at an all-time high while crime is decreasing. This past year, we have announced over 120 acres of development projects in downtown Ogden. Some of those projects, like the Intermodal Transportation Center, Amphitheater, and Business Information Center (BIC) have recently been completed. The majority of the new projects are either under construction or are currently in the city redevelopment process. These projects will mean more jobs, entertainment, retail and residential units for downtown Ogden. It has been exciting to see some of our historic buildings like the Eccles Building on 24th and Washington Boulevard be renovated for new purposes. Many other historic buildings like the American Can Company, Shupe-Williams and Boyle buildings also have plans underway for renovation. Twenty-Fifth Street has never looked better. There have been many improvements over the past two years that include new tree lights, new historic street lights on the 300 block, painting of semaphores, tree grates and light poles. One of the most exciting improvements will be the new Union Square project on the 100 block of 25th Street. This major project will fill in most of the vacant ground there with period style buildings, and will offer new town homes and condominiums. There are other projects already lining up in conjunction with the Union Square project. I thank all of the business owners, patrons, previously elected officials and the community as a whole for the support in making these significant changes come to fruition. Ogden is a better place to live, work and play because of your contributions. Now, join with us in welcoming the world to Ogden as we celebrate with the biggest party this town has ever seen.
