Crown Plaza Hotel to Welcome Olympic Guests

By Steven Andrews

The original structure of the historic Eccles Building, reigning over the corner of 24th and Washington, was constructed before the First World War. It is standing today after fighting its own war of decay, time, and red tape. That war took its toll though and deservingly it is receiving the final touches that lately, we couldn't help but notice. There was the imposing crane lifting the steel beams to the upper most stories of its grandeur. Then in these latest weeks, the furniture was moved in and interior designing finished for the gutted inside. Soon to be a four-star Crowne Plaza Hotel, the building and entire neighborhood are about to smile a little more. The Plaza Hotel will be connected to the Ogden Eccles Conference Center and the Egyptian Theater is down a few doors where it will connect as well. The majority of the floors are ready to accommodate the Olympic visitors, some of which have booked weeks in advance. Eighty-nine years later and the $12 million dollars will do wonders for a building, historically and appearance wise. Let's take a look up and welcome the newest edition to renovations and preservation in Ogden.
