VIEW FROM THE NINTH FLOOR
Ogden - A City like no Other

by Mayor Matthew Godfrey

I have done a fair amount of traveling in my life. I love to go to other communities and see what they have. I always go to their downtown areas to see what makes them tick and how things look. I look for their art and culture and natural amenities. I’ve seen some neat towns, but nothing that rivals Ogden.

Natural Amenities
Where else in the world do you have a downtown that has Class 2 white water rivers running through it. Literally, on your lunch break you can go kayaking or flyfishing. We also have dozens of miles of hike or bike trails that can be accessed through the Parkway from downtown or in 5 to 10 minutes you can be at one of several trail heads in the foothills.

If rock climbing or bouldering is your style you’re in luck. There are many climbing spots to choose from just a few minutes from downtown.

If you like to water ski, snow ski, wakeboard or snowboard you can be at one of two lakes in 20 minutes or you can be at Snowbasin, home of the Olympic Downhill, in 25 minutes. Two other ski resorts are just a few minutes further away.

If golf is more your style there are 14 golf courses within 20 minutes of downtown where the average green fee is $10.

Where else is there access to so much so close?

Culture and Art
For a city of our size we have an impressive amount of art and culture. The Ogden Symphony and Ballet has brought amazing talent to our community. We also have many art galleries, including the Eccles Community Art Center, and an Arts District in our Historic 25th Street.

We have some great museums including the Stuart Museum at Eccles Dinosaur Park, Childrens Treehouse Museum, Browning Arms Museum, Aerospace Museum, Union Station and many others.

There are great performances and concerts going on all the time at the Ogden Amphitheater, the historic Egyptian Theater or at Browning Theater at Weber State.

Downtown
We have a great downtown that has many exciting things in place, like Historic 25th Street, the amphitheater, Union Station, the Eccles Conference Center, Peery’s Egyptian Theater, etc. Perhaps even more exciting is the list of new projects that are underway like the new mall, Union Square, IRS Phase 1 and 2, the High Tech Center and the River Project. It’s great to be able to have an urban experience in a community that hasn’t lost some of the hometown feel.

Ogden is a fantastic community just starting to be discovered by the world. Remember that Money Magazine voted it the 4th best place in the country to live. Sunset Magazine named us "One of the Best Places in the West to Live". We are fortunate to live in a community where the quality of life is so high.
