JUNCTION CITY NEWS VOL 1 ISSUE 1 "BOARDWALK" This photo was taken in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Tilt your head to the left and you will see the shadows of the fence on the boardwalk. Many folks were tilting their heads in many directions trying to figure out what this image reflects when it was released in 1984. This issue created many discussions in its time in the light. Especially since it is all about LIGHT and shadow that creates this image and illusion. The design process was cut and paste (yes an exacto blade) by using overlays of acetate with stick down screens for the spot color red used in reverse with the photograph being changed into a high contrast PMT using black ink. This process seems primitive in this new day of high technology yet was cutting edge at the time. As much as this issue was enjoyed and was considered the first official "independent" publication distributed in Ogden, Utah, we all had ink on our faces and hands by the over use of black. A lesson I learned and would not repeat. Seeing smiling faces with blotches of ink was startling and humorous to me.We worked late and hard on this premier issue and did not have time to develop a masthead, so I hand wrote it as it was headed out to the printer. It was the one and only. And the beginning... This IS where this journey began. Enjoy! SPARC 6/03
